Forney ISD Names Lone Finalist for Superintendent
In a press release posted on their website this morning, Forney ISD has announced that Dr. Darrell Brown has been named the lone finalist for superintendent of FISD.
Dr. Brown, 47, currently serves as Assistant Superintendent/Executive Director for Curriculum, Staff Development and Accountability in Katy ISD. The state requires a 21-day waiting period before Dr. Brown can sign a contract with the district – the FISD Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Monday, December 10th when Dr. Brown is expected to sign a contract to become the district’s new superintendent. The district will host a reception immediately following. Read on for more information about our new superintendent, whose photo appears below.

Dr. Brown has worked in education for over 24 years. He began as a secondary mathematics teacher in Teague ISD for five years, after which he worked as a secondary mathematics teacher and then assistant principal in Huntsville ISD, where he spent eight years. He moved to Conroe ISD as the coordinator of mathematics in 1997, and he has worked in Katy ISD since 2000, where he most recently served as assistant superintendent/executive director for curriculum, staff development and accountability.
Dr. Brown graduated from The University of Texas at Tyler in 1985 and received his masters from Sam Houston State University in 1992. He received his doctoral degree from Texas A&M University in 1997. Dr. Brown and his wife Dana have three children – a son Tyler, 20; daughter Kylie, 14 and daughter Kyndall, 11.
“With his exceptional background in mathematics and curriculum, including experience in a huge, fast-growth district, Dr. Darrell Brown is the ideal candidate to lead Forney ISD to greater levels of student success,” stated Keith Bell, FISD School Board President.
Dr. Brown, in addition to his duties at Katy ISD, also serves on the 2007-2008 executive committee & board of directors of the Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). He also has been involved in the TEA’s Student Assessment Division/State Board of Education’s Work Sessions concerning the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test.
Katy, where Dr. Brown has worked since 2000, is a suburb on the west side of Houston, along I-10. In a situation fairly similar to Forney, the city itself had roughly 12,000 residents, but quite a few large developments are outside of city limits, but within the school district’s boundaries. Katy ISD describes themselves as: “a flourishing suburban school district that encompasses 181 square miles in east Texas. Its eastern boundaries stretch to Houston’s energy corridor approximately 16 miles west of downtown Houston and extend along Interstate 10 to a few miles west of the city of Katy.”
As of the 2007-08 school year, Katy ISD served more than 53,000 students served by 47 schools, including six high schools.
