The primaries are just around the corner, and while there’s been a lot of attention on the presidential race, several state and local races are heating up around Kaufman County! Our current representative in the US House, Republican Jeb Hensarling appears to be running unopposed in the Republican primary, and apparently no challengers filed to run for the Democratic nomination for that position. However, Republican Betty Brown is facing stiff competition in her bid to be re-elected for a sixth term as our representative in the Texas House of Representatives – not only has Wade Gent, who nearly unseated Representative Brown in a previous primary, filed to run against her in the Republican Primary, Victor Morales has filed for the Democratic nomination for the position.

No one filed for the Democratic Party’s nomination for Kaufman County Sheriff, but both the current sheriff, David Byrnes, and a challenger, Eddie Frankum, have filed to run for the Republican nomination for the position.

In local races, Jason West is the only candidate who filed to run for Precinct 2 Constable in the Democratic Primary, with both Joe Don Law and Kalon Rollins filing for the position in the Republican Primary.

Given the number of individuals who will run unopposed after the primaries, the March 4th primaries will determine quite a few of our elected officials, so it’s important you get out and vote!
