Early Voting Results In – Over 23,407 Kaufman County Residents Voted Early
The results from early voting in Kaufman County are in with over 23,000 ballots cast in early voting, a record-breaking number. The results from early voting appear below (with one caveat – see update below). Please remember that these results are for Kaufman County alone, so the percentages, etc., do not necessarily indicate who is leading in any national, state-wide, district-wide or similar election.
Also, I’d caution against assuming these are final/correct results – these results indicate that only roughly 750 people early voted in Precinct 2, which includes Forney, Travis Ranch, Windmill Farms and much of the surrounding area. They also indicate that roughly 80 people early voted in Precinct 3, which includes primarily Terrell. Those numbers don’t sound right to me. (Updated – see note, at end of post.)
Stay tuned to 20PM throughout the evening for election result updates – I’ve covered all the elections below, but future updates will only focus on contested elections of interest to residents of Kaufman County. The final results post will contain all of the results, again. Some interesting numbers…many Republican candidates throughout the country were concerned about the number of Obama supporters who would vote straight-ticket Democrat, but doesn’t appear to have been the case in early voting in Kaufman County, where 48% of the people voted straight ticket, with the majority of those straight-ticket voters voting Republican. Also, the support for Obama in Kaufman County appears to have been lower than expected, at least in early voting, where McCain received 70.64% of the votes cast to Obama’s 28.82% (0.54% of the votes went to the Libertarian party candidate, Bob Barr).

UPDATE @ 8:33PM – The results are all provided by the Kaufman County website, at www.KaufmanCounty.net. As I noted above, the numbers didn’t make sense to me. The time was also a little odd to me – the machine timestamped the report at 8:19PM on November 4th, even though I downloaded it at 7:56PM. Now, at 8:38PM, the site provided me with a report timestamped 7:59PM with over 12,000 votes to the previous 6,000, including the ‘missing’ votes from Precincts 2 and 3. While I can understand the votes not being tallied yet and the results being incomplete (although I’m not sure how 80 votes from a precinct could be counted but not the 1800 or so, as in the case of Precinct 3, considering that all early voting takes place at one polling place and one set of machines in each county precinct), the timestamp jumping backwards seems a little…odd.
