Forney High School Notified of a Confirmed Case of H1N1 Influenza
Forney ISD received information after students had been dismissed on Friday, May 22 of a student at Forney High School with a confirmed case of H1N1 Influenza (Swine Flu). As a result, the district immediately began a thorough cleaning and sanitizing of Forney High School which began on Friday and will continue throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
Forney ISD will follow the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) recommendations regarding the situation. The CDC states that “school closure is not advised for a suspected or confirmed case of novel influenza A (H1N1) and, in general, is not advised unless there is a magnitude of faculty or student absenteeism that interferes with the school’s ability to function.”
In addition, the CDC recommends that “students, faculty or staff with influenza-like illness (fever with a cough or sore throat) should stay home and not attend school or go into the community except to seek medical care for at least 7 days even if symptoms resolve sooner.”
Forney ISD is taking this situation very seriously and is making every effort to ensure that the students at Forney High School will have clean, sanitized and safe facility when they return to school on Tuesday, May 26.
