Forney, Texas - 'Twenty Peaceful Minutes East of Downtown Dallas'

Commissioners Court report: June 8th, 2009 Meeting

The Kaufman County Commissioners held a regular meeting of the Commissioners Court on Monday, June 8 at 9:30 a. m. with all Commissioners and County Judge Wayne Gent present.

Commissioner J. C. Jackson (Precinct 3) gave the invocation. The Court led the audience in the pledges to the U. S. and Texas flags.

The first item of business was to approve the minutes of May 29. Commissioner Jerry Rowden (Precinct 1) moved for approval of the minutes as presented, with Jim Deller (Precinct 4) seconding. All Commissioners voted in favor.

There was no routine correspondence.

By unanimous vote, the Commissioners approved the following agenda items:

Approved the deputation of Brent Ryan Johnson as Deputy Constable, Precinct 2, as requested by Precinct 2 Constable Joe Don Law. Motion: Clark; seconding: Commissioner J. C. Jackson (Precinct 3). All Commissioners voted in favor.

Approved the purchase of 60 signs in the amount of $22.41 per sign for a total of $3,586.00, which includes installation. The signs are for the county’s “Turn Around – Don’t Drown” campaign as requested by Kathy Morris. Motion to approve purchase: Rowden; seconding: Commissioner Ray Clark (Precinct 2). All Commissioners voted in favor.

Accepted the County Auditor’s report for May, 2009. Motion to accept: Deller; seconding: Jackson. All Commissioners voted in favor.

Judge Gent announced that the Kaufman County Collections Department had been awarded Collections Program of the Year by the Collections Association of Texas. Johnny Countryman, County Treasurer, and his employees have had the most dramatic increase in revenue collections of any county during 2007-2008. No Court action was required.

Approved a citizen’ request that TxDOT conduct a traffic study for the intersection of CR 237 and SH 80, with possible installation of a traffic control device, in Precinct 3. Barbara York of Terrell was present to speak about the request. Motion to approve: Jackson; seconding: Deller. All Commissioners voted in favor.

Approved a request by EMBARQ to install a buried communications fiber cable across (under) the right-of-way of County Road 4023, Precinct 4. Motion to approve: Deller; seconding: Jackson. All Commissioners voted in favor.

Approved a request by EMBARQ to install buried communications cable under (along) the right-of-way of CR 156, Precinct 1. Motion to approve: Rowden; seconding: Deller. All Commissioners voted in favor.

Approved line item transfers and budget amendments as presented by County Auditor Hal Jones. Motion to approve: Deller; seconding: Jackson. All Commissioners voted in favor.

Approved bills for payment in the amount of $1,027,229.24 as presented by County Auditor Hal Jones. Motion to approve: Deller; seconding: Clark. All Commissioners voted in favor.

There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned at 12:25 p. m. by unanimous “yes“ vote of the Commissioners on a motion by Jackson, seconded by Deller.

The Commissioners will not meet Monday, June 15. Their next meeting will be Monday, June 22.
