Members of the Board of Directors of the Forney Education Leadership Foundtion, along with representatives of the Warren Middle School science department, took part in a ribbon-cutting last week for a miniature eco-garden that has been planted in the enclose courtyard at WMS.

Creation of the eco-garden was funded with a $2,500.00 grant made from F.E.L.F. to the WMS science department in the fall of 2008. Purpose of the grant was to begin an outdoor eco-garden that will help science students learn about “green” gardening, including composting, rainwater harvesting, and other aspects of environmentally-friendly plant management. Several Kaufman County Master Gardeners assisted in planning the eco-garden.

The garden was placed in the courtyard for the use and enjoyment of all WMS faculty and students.

F.E.L.F. representatives present for the ribbon-cutting included Lisa Cowgill, Larry Coker, Mary Elsbecker, and Keith Bell. Also taking part in the ceremony were WMS principal Kenneth Pearce; Jeanne Brady, head of the WMS science department; and other WMS science teachers.
