???  On a V, they'd be both front and back, correct?
If it's a V yes, but a straight 6 or 4 cylinder would be side-facing in many cases and only have exhaust exiting on one side of the block.

LOL I said "V6" in my post and does anyone make a straight 6 in a car anymore? I know Chrysler discontinued their 4.0 straight six, which in my opion was a mistake that thing was bullet proof and put out great power, of course the V6 has come a long way I know Ford is putting up some tremendous HP numbers from theirs...

What is the make and model? Truthfully IF your coolant level does not decrease and your temp gauge doesn't show it overheating I wouldn't worry about it especially IF it only happens during rain storms...If it happened every time you drove it that would be different.

 - This is the approach I WAS taking.. but thought I'd ask if anyone heard of such a thing (steam), and kind of verify my suspicions. (and dh's too - but he's NOT much of a 'car guy'). It IS a little unnerving.
It's a 2002 Dodge Caravan (Sooooo Mom car).  :happysad: - but it has served it's purpose. It still does. It's becoming a 'beater'.
.... and I'm pretty sure it IS a V6 sideways front wheel drive vehicle.
Not to mention that if it is a V6 sideways front wheel drive vehicle the exhaust manifold for the one cylinder bank will be at the front of the car and it get's plenty hot enough to turn water to steam...

Soooo - Tex, if that is true, why hasn't it done that from the start?
Do you think it's because now many gaskets and other weather protection parts are worn out or missing?

.... and Yea! The MUSIC has GOT to be helping to make it hot!

I had an 04 Grand Caravan when I was married I liked it my wife hated it  LOL and yeah it's a sideways V6 in it and it's certainly possible that rain water is getting in there some how, you could have a missing or loose splash guard up from or in the wheel well, and certainly water could run down the inside of the hood or down a fender well under the hood and drop onto the exhaust manifold the thing is if you, there are so many palces water could roll down during a rainstorm and drip so if you are sure you aren't loosing coolant I wouldn't worry about it...

:D. I'll keep checking the coolant in both the reservoir and the radiator..
and for now I guess I'll just keep steaming along!

Thanks so much for your opinions guys!
