The Village at Meadow Ridge Farms
« on: July 04, 2009, 04:20:44 PM »
Soooo, I was checking out the Endeavor Real Estate website.  (the company that was supposedly behind this huge shopping center) The shopping center in Forney is no longer listed as an upcoming project.  They have removed it from their website.  Does this mean the shopping center isn't happening anymore?  I can only assume so.  So much for something good coming to Forney.

I was wondering if this was scuttled due to the economy.   I looked at the link and now our 2.2 million square foot "East Texas Regional Entertainment Center" has become a mere 750k square feet.

I can see the 10 million for the bridge being necessary if we were getting the originally planned mall, but not for a place not even half the size.  We went from supposedly being twice the size of Firewheel to three quarters of Firewheel.

I agree about the bridge.  I mean, why are we spending 10 million dollars on a bridge to a relatively small shopping center?  I guess we'll have our own version of the "bridge to  nowhere" right here in Forney.

I was starting to wonder when I drove by the other day and saw nothing going on!  Why did the original back out?

My understanding is that Edge was started by some of the guys who were previously with Endeavor.  Also, the 2.2 million square feet is the original estimated total of all three phases of the project; the 750k square feet is the amount of phase 1, which was always the only part scheduled to be completed any time in the next couple years.

The purpose of the bridge is not only for the new retail area; it will be the only bridge in the Forney area that spans the railroad tracks.  There is currently no way to cross over the railroad tracks if a train is passing through, which is a problem for emergency vehicles attempting to cross from one side of 80 to the other.

Thanks Will for putting that out there and hopefully clearing some things up for people;
I was too tired of it to go through it again.
Can I just add that the 10 million in question comes from some State funds - and in no way are "we" paying for that part of it.... the bridge WILL however cost more then THAT.

Unless, I've misunderstood...  750k is the TOTAL square footage in now TWO phases.

Here's what it says on Edge's website from the link provided above...

GLA: 750,000 sf in 2 phases

I would guess that the square footage, etc. can change and we won't know precisely until its built.  I'll leave Unknown in charge of measuring for us  ;D

Really everything is subject to change in this economy, but thus far I haven't heard anything that made me think the plans were being changed other than the possibility of pushing back the date.

....so I'm waiting patiently....   :jump:

Hey, why do you think I'm so irked?   I had that field chalked off for 2.2 million square feet and all I had to work with was my kids 12 inch wooden school ruler.  That's tougher sledding than those elaborate crop circles.
