Well those really do look .... impressive. Like the ones that cover the WHOLE GIRL practically! Maybe they can wear ... just their Mum someday. (LOL)
I wouldn't last one hour w one of those!

I forgot to tell about all the yellow and black pants on Friday...
There were yellow and black checks, tie-dye, and striped pants.
My favorite was the fella that had pants with big bold yellow and black horizontal stripes.. he looked like a bumble bee.

#6. Friday
You haven't seen this post in awhile because .... all has been fine.
Haven't seen anything that really sticks out.
Just mini-trends...
The Black for blue pants has not become a HOT trend.. just pops up sometimes. (See #4.)
But the preference for the navy blue pants vs. khaki is starting to increase.
There has been a lot more blue.... AND along w it the hue variations.. by degrees.
Besides black - I've now seen grey, dark green, even purple - but all these a tint that still COULD be considered "blue" - just not Navy.
The White for Khaki is still out there... and sticks out a little this time of year.

BOOTS:
They HAVE found a loophole in the boots though!! There are no real restrictions in the code on boots - other than "no para-military style". They are SUPPOSED to be brown or black though.
So during rainy times we saw the funky colorful rubber rainboots...
But now seeing LOTS and lots of different booties.. mostly the furry suede ones.
... the thing w some of these is that some look like house shoes (infraction).. they have no 'soles' on them - and they look kind of weird on a hot day.
White pants with white-ish furry booties DID stand out yesterday, now that I think about it.
I love the boots and shorts combo!!!! - It's a perfectly legal look. Attention getter.
I'm waiting for them to grab on to the new sh-booties style. Haven't seen them yet.

#7. Wednesday
Once again, two months since last post because ... things have been acceptable.
Mini-trends in pant color, and BOOTS in high gear. (Not many boots with shorts these cold days of winter!) ---- still no sh-booties that I have seen.

Posting because not-in-code OUTERWEAR when worn all day while IN class is the rage... these are usually in the form of hoodies.. hoodies with lots of prints on 'em. Seen vivid colors and prints, Jack Skellington (Nightmare b4 C'mas), and some kids, even my own ds, get away with diff rock band logo hoodies. (But I got onto him - saying not to 'push it')
Seen these while in the office, and by report from ds.
.. and whether in-code color or not, let me tell you - you don't want to know what's UNDER those hoodies! (Hint: not school polos)

OK.. most notable, and prompting me to post was.....
girl in office wearing a black sequined, short sleeved SHRUG over her white short sleeve polo. This thing was FULLY sequined (and provides no warmth).
For those of you that don't know.. a shrug covers the upper back and basically just your shoulders around the front.. like a tiny vest kind of - if it had no sides.
Last time I checked, something with sequins like that is usually considered 'evening wear'.
Very nice girl.. and she looked very nice IN IT - but it screams "LOOK AT ME!!" - which I guess of course is the idea.
I don't think the code addresses shrugs... or sequins...... LOL.
Unless it's considered 'outerwear'. It does talk about 'vests' - but this ain't a vest.

Gotta love the 'fresh'/bold approach.. and creative style.

Guys' hair - BTW, is definately being 'let go' - some VERY long locks for those who want to sport that look.

How about a really rockin' Retro & Euro style BLAZER?

I have spent the last few months reading this thread & today I have to say something. The dress code should be the least of your worries. Do you really know what happens behind the scenes at the high school? Smoking weed behind the dumpster, getting drunk at school, etc. The admin. at the high school has been told but has chosen to look the other way. Start looking at the other things that are going on, besides the clothes and shoes. The smartest kid in class can pass a water bottle with vodka during class.

Hey folks high school ain't what it was when we were in school. Kids today aren't sneaking cigarettes in the bathroom like we did. Smoking pot, passing around a water bottle filled with vodka, while may be new to Forney is nothing new in most schools today. Welcome, to the kinder and more gentle schools of the 21st Century. Guess what, it will only get worse. As out little town continues to grow so will the problems the schools face.

As a teacher, principal, school board, or who ever we feel like the little boy putting his finger in the leaking dike. You stop the leak in one place only to find water leaking some where else.

The problem with today's schools is that too many parents are choosing not to be parents. They have never set limits on their precious little darlings and then send them off to school and expect the schools to teach them, when they don't even know how to behave in public. Yet it is the schools fault? We do all that we can, but we can't do it all and the really sad thing is that it makes really difficult for those who want to learn and do what is right to function in school. The teacher is so busy being a policeman that we don't have time to teach.

Oh well,

yeah smoking pot and drinking in high school is definitely not new news. Either here or in big towns.  to say that there is such a problem with these things is probably an overstep, as typically these behaviors are normally carried out by small segments of the entire school body. even back when i grew up here and it was a small town there were kids doing these types of things.

small events in high school often get blown out of proportion and by the time the kids that tell their parents these types of things the story is normally much worse than it actually was. of course if administration, teachers and other adults on campus are not calling these things out there would be a problem.  however i would find it hard to believe that any responsible adult on campus would walk right by a dumpster reaking of weed, or would look the other way if they saw a bottle being passed around in the back of class.  Sure kids probably have successfully done both of these things and bragged to their friends and it begins there until some kid comes home and tells their parents how the kids are using drugs and fornicating like crazy in gym class.

teacherdude is right, it is not the schools fault if kids partake in these types of things, that fault lies with the parents.  way before those kids who did that at school, they did it at or around home, and any active parent would notice things and begin to ask questions.

I am very proud of our school district and think that we have it pretty good out here and no matter where you are you are never going to escape the suspected evils of the world, however through parenting your kids through these times you may be able to show them that certain things are not meant to be used by kids especially at the high school age.

You are corrrect that most likely this is a very small number of students who are doing these things, but it is just like a weed in your yard. (no pun intended). If the weed is not removed, it will spread and could eventually take over your yard.

The problems schools have today is that it does take an act of Congress to get a child removed. As a result, those who are borderline, see that nothing really bad happened to those who do get caught and it makes them bolder. Not to say what it does for the small minority who start it all.

I would assume a police officer is on campus, but once again it is one person. The adults on the campus will report and turn in a student they catch, the problem is being able to catch them. The likely hood of a teacher actually knowing the name of a student who is not in their class is slim. So, if a teacher does walk up on something, and they do not know the name of the student, there is not much they can do about it if the student decides to run, and they will.

Overall I have been very pleased with the education of the FISD, but I am starting to see more and more weeds pop up in our little garden. And those weeds are spreading. The schools and the small town approach is what drew my family to Forney 10+ years ago, but I am afraid that everything is changing, some for the good and some not. But such is life.

Ranger hello, teenagers aren't out buying vodka?  Who are you kidding? How many parents of high school kids really know what their child is doing with the money they earn at their little part time jobs? Teenagers for the most part aren't paying rent, electric bills, etc... so the money they have, they spend on basically what ever they want to (I know there are exceptions to this statement) and most parents have no idea.

Plus, teenagers aren't buying the "good stuff". They want to get drunk. I do not drink, but I know that there are better quality vodkas that will be rather expensive, and then there is the cheap stuff. That is what the teenagers purchase. All they want is to get drunk. They don't care about the taste.

For example- (now don't get all excited about this) but if you talk to most teenagers they think the tacos they sell at Taco Bell, Jack In the Box, or soon here Taco Casa are really good tacos. They are really good because they meet the two most basic needs most teenager have- they are cheap and they fill their stomachs. As adults, we may eat the taco's at these places, but we know we can get better tacos other places, but they cost more. It is the same with vodka or other alcohol. Teenagers want to get drunk for as little money as possible.

"Well teenagers aren't allowed to buy alcohol." HA HA!!! There are so many ways for teenages to get alcohol. They get their older friends to buy it for them, they get older siblings to buy if for them, or they just take it from their parents supply. Also, getting a fake ID is about as simple as passing a 1st grade math test.

Ooookay - my turn again.
First - thnx Forney56 for reading 'my' little thread for months...
The Dress Code is really not a 'worry' of mine - at all.
But, it is there.
You and the other responders are pretty new to 20PM (except Ranger) and what you probably don't know - is that the "Dress Code" almost annually, was a hot button here. There were many lengthy (10 page or more) and passionate discussions about it both For and Against. The school district has been called Nazi's on it.. concerns raised about the time spent policing it that could be spent on educating.. the value and benefit of it if any.. the reason for having it. Discussions have broken off to parenting and many other directions over it many times.
This little thread (authored by me) is simply meant to be a lighthearted, fun, fashion-conscious mini-blog if you will. An almost tongue-in-cheek commentary on the ability and creativeness of the FHS students to take a set of rules (Dress Code) and bend and push them to the very boundaries to please themselves, which I actually kind of admire. I had thought it could also be used as sort of a 'touchpoint' to guage just how hard (at least @ FHS) the admin. is cracking down on enforcement of it through the school year. I mean... you may have heard tales of students being sent home in the past for having the 'wrong belt' on for example. With the different faces of the administration from year to year, has come different levels of dress code violation toleration.
I do realize however, your point  - that the clothes and shoes the kids are wearing is the least of the problems that High School students may face. That there are other bigger issues - like the drugs and alcohol you bring up.
On that, ask ANY High School kid (and I have asked mine) and they WILL tell you that the activities you mention AND MORE is prevalent and common enough that it is almost a non-issue for them.  Some kids COME to school high. Some get high AT school. According to 'Sonny' you can if you want buy just about anything from another kid at school - all the way down to regular cigarettes and dip. He says the smartest (best grades) kid he knows in his classes this year - is a known 'stoner'.
The point I want to make is in line with what previous posters here said - the young adults should be raised and taught enough by now to KNOW what the right and wrong choices are. High school is a culture of it's own and an introductory microcosm of the 'real' world. It's only a few short years until they are done with this and into THAT.
All the drug programs, speakers and assemblies the kids have been through in elementary school have led up to what goes on NOW, as did all the parenting and talks they have hopefully been subjected to. I agree with those who said that there is really only so much the administration and 'police' can do even if they have 'been told'. It is very hard to stop.. like trying to plug the hole in the dike.. (per Teacherdude). My experience and feelings tell me that IF and when this problem gets bad enough that an ambulance has to be called to school for a kid with alcohol poisoning, or for a kid that passed out and cracked their head... they WILL make more effort. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. So all you peeps with kids that aren't old enough for high school yet... BE DOING YOUR THING....
... right then. That is the drugs and alcohol issue. Are we parents having the SEX talks we should be having? Another very real issue for our high schoolers and we haven't even touched on that. Think the school should be right on top of the choices our kids make on those concerns as well?

................ at any rate - this thread ain't about that.
