Seriously as if these large signs displaying the speed you are going, which is oddly conveniently placed in every car, are not a complete waste of our "fairly high" tax money. If we have to have these and someone really thinks they are a good idea should they be placed right before you get to the railroad tracks. If you can pick it up to over 30 right there go for it.... Your gonna blow a tire when you go over the tracks.

rja, this sign has been moved all over town to make people aware of their speed. Most people think the speed they are traveling is appropriate for the prevailing conditions.

Last week the sign was on the opposite side of the street right next to the old fire department. I, for one, am glad this sign is there because if you park on Bois d' Arc to patronize a business you risk getting whiplash from getting rearended by some selfish jerk flying through town when you back out of your parking spot.

Would you prefer a cop with a radar gun and a ticketbook? Would you then be crying about "speed traps" and the city trying to get into your wallet? This isn't the autobahn. It is a small town. There is a speed limit and people need to obey it. Life and limb are at stake here.

I'd prefer a cop with a radar gun and ticketbook. Generate more income for the city. People that choose to speed know the consequences. If they can afford a speeding ticket, then go for it. The cop would probably be more effective than that sign anyways.

Speaking of generating revenue for the city..... They can make millions with red light camera's. Especially at the 548 intersection at both the Murphy's gas station and CVS.

...ugh, don't say that. Right before the state enacted those laws to protect citizens from overzealous cities installing red light cameras everywhere, the city of Forney entered into a contract with a company to provide red light cameras. I believe that allows them to be grandfathered in and not have those new laws apply to their red light cameras, if they ever decide to install them. Given all the problems that have been discovered in Dallas and other cities with red light cameras, I really, really hope Forney never installs them. They cause more problems than they solve, and the only person who truly benefits is the city's budget - but at too high of a cost.

As far as the speed detecting sign - I actually have to say I was impressed by these. It looked like a standard road sign fitted with some special equipment. Pretty much every city of any size has at least one of these signs now, but all of them I've seen before have been custom-made signs that are obviously produced by some company that makes a killing selling these things to cities. The ones Forney purchased at least looked to be much more affordable, since it uses an existing sign/technology.

I thought the same thing, though, about where they place it - because of the hill leading up to the train tracks, it doesn't pick you up until you're pretty close to the tracks, and like arejayavery mentioned, I just don't think placing it so close to the tracks is very effective - there's no way you could speed right there, even if you wanted to, or you'd lose a tire to the tracks!

I didn't notice it on Bois D'Arc near the old fire department - THAT is a good location, because I agree, Osota, people fly through that area all the time and make it impossible for anyone to frequent those businesses.

I like to see how fast I can get up to before it reads my speed. So far, my high is 78 through there.

They make me want to go faster...
I went by one, got it up to 70 then it turned bright red and read SLOW DOWN....
I havn't been able to get one to do it sense, but I am sure tryin!

Actually i think i would rather them have a cop there and write some tickets, especially in the downtown area because i agree about the speeds through there. A few tickets get handed out and people will be careful. For instance you have to be dense to speed on 80 before east fork road because there is a speed trap thusly i never speed there.

Also speaking of generating income. How much of our tax money goes right into Terrell every weekend. It is time that we can buy a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine here in town....
