Financial Peace University at FUMC Forney
« on: January 04, 2009, 12:50:18 PM »
A new session of Financial Peace University (Dave Ramsey) is beginning soon.  There is a free information session (30 minutes) at First United Methodist Church this Wednesday, January 7 at 6:30pm in the Family Life Center.   The actual class will be a 13 week course beginning Wednesday, January 28th from 6:30 to 8:30.   The informational session is NOT a requirement for doing the class.   If you can't make it or miss it, feel free to take the class anyway.

The cost of the membership kit is $93.  If you previously took the class, you're always welcome to sit in on any session free of charge.  There are a few scholarships available for people who need it.

For more information, please contact Marc Farmer at 214-616-5147.

I attended Dave Ramsey's seminar at Reunion Arena.   It was EXCELLENT.   He has a great plan for getting out of debt and being financially stable.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. This is greatness! This is life changing, marriage saving, child preparing awesome stuff.

It is FINANCIAL PEACE! It is everything it sounds like. It is a  journey. It is ongoing. The lessons are invalueable.

I recommend it for everyone with a car payment, a credit card, a personal loan, school loans, kids getting ready for college, young couples preparing for marriage, old couples who have been married for 100 years.

I hope everyone goes through this course at one time, or another.

There are few things greater than a car in the drive way that is paid for, living debt free, and just paying stuff off.

Busy, it will depend on interest, but I would venture to say that there will be a second one at FUMC in the fall.   I think Fellowship Baptist does a class too.  Not sure when.

Financial Peace University also starts on January 26th at Fellowship on Monday nights.

This isn't for competing Churches, but more info for those who have schedule conflicts.

Thanks KingWillie!   It's definitely good to have options for such a great course!   It's not a profit-generating activity for churches, it's mission-based, so hopefully no one should have issues with "competition"

I am such a believer in this line of ministry. Even if you aren't religios, you should go through this course.

It has changed our household. I have watched it change others. I have watched financial stress leave my own marriage, as well as others.

If you don't need that change in your house, good for you.

So what exactly is it?  Ministry to get out of debt?  I'm confused.

Here's a link with a bunch of info:

http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu/home/index.cfm?fuseAction=dspFpuGettingStarted

This is how it applies to churches:

http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu/church/

HOW FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY CAN HELP YOUR CHURCH
How FPU Can help

FPU teaches your congregation to handle God's money God's way. We teach people to live like no onle else so later they can live like no one else. The average family reduces their debt by $5,300 and saves $2,700 in 91 days, resulting in an increased ability to give.

MORE THAN 800 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES ABOUT MONEY
Scriptures

God has given us over 800 scriptures about money, showing us how to handle our finances His way. The Bible has a lot of interesting things to say about money, debt and personal finance. Here are a few verses you can find in the Scripture on the subject.

Living in debt is like an addiction.  This class helps you break that addiction.  Just for the record I have never take the class.  When DH and I first got married (21 years ago) the church we were attending at the time required couples to take a budge t class . . . I believe it was based on a book by Larry Burkett.  For the most part DH and I don't live in debt . . . but we could be wiser about our money.  We have the know how just need to do it.
