Forney PD and 4th of July
« on: July 04, 2009, 09:27:22 PM »
Ok, so I'm going to compliment and complain just a little bit.

Normally every year, there are fireworks everywhere in our neighborhood and the FPD has a tough time keeping it down. We live very close to downtown and are DEFINITELY inside city limits. I must give the FPD a compliment that this year they are out in force and really trying to make a difference for the jerks who think its ok to shoot in our neighborhood. Every year the street behind us has people who shoot off artillery shells and their crap lands in my backyard or I'm out there stomping out embers landing in it. Not so much this year, and I want to give them that compliment.

My complaint however is along the same lines... if you bust someone doing it, please write them the ticket. The street behind us was shooting some off tonight, and we've counted at least 4 different FPD cars coming to the same house now and yet they still seem to keep shooting off fireworks as soon as the police leave. The cops are not there long enough to write tickets, and even as I type this, they are shooting AGAIN. I think they should immediately start writing tickets, I know its a pain, but until the ticket book comes out, they just wait for you to leave FPD, please please please write tickets.

But my hats are off to the great presence that you have shown this year, so please don't think I'm "bagging" on you, you do a great job and its been very noticable this year!  ^thumbs

OTOH, our neighbors always put on a huge display, and it's worth stomping out the occasional bottle rocket to be able to enjoy it without paying for it!  We've priced fireworks, and for a display of any size, you end up paying hundreds.

OTOOH (LOL), they seem to tire of shooting them off on July 2, 3, and 4th and still have a bunch left over, so we'll be hearing them late into the night every night next week!  :D

Cottonwood, do you live in city limits? If not then I think that is ok. If it is in the city limits and around alot of houses, then no matter how pretty it is, it is inconsiderate.

Personally, I think if people want to set off fireworks . . . . they should have property big enough that the trash/embers stay on their own property.

I used to really, really like the 4th of July. . . . . . after living in WMF . . . . I absolutely hate it.  It just blows me away how inconsiderate people are. . . they were going past 11 pm and when we left the community today their fireworks still litter the roads. . . . . maybe I would feel differently if people stopped at 10 pm and cleaned up their fun.

This has nothing to do w FPD; but..
just wanted to note that last night we were at Old Military Circle.. (Off Windy Lane)
and someone down around there or off of 741/behind FHS w bigger acreage apparently, put on a pretty good firework display! There 'works' were definately NOT the cheesy consumer grade stuff you buy at the stands. I would say they rivaled the display the city had -- THAT good. (professional quality) And it went on for a couple hours.. not minutes, with only small breaks. They had 3 or 4 'grand finale' type bursts.... Awesome!

Don't know who or what was behind that.... but we enjoyed the heck out of it - thanks!
(Free show for us!). They quit about 11:30.

I'm sure their wallets are smokin' today. (From opening and closing and opening)...
whatever! it's YOUR money exploding into 100's of pinpricks of light in the night sky...
so just.. thanks.  ^thumbs

Try living in Windmill Farms or Travis Ranch and see if you feel the same way.

Will, we went by a friend's house on July 4th in WMF to take care of their pets while they were away. We saw the mayhem that ensued, I feel sorry for ya'll, I'd go nuts out there.

What ticks me off so bad, these people behind us are only 2 miles from the city limits. They could hop in their vehicles and shoot LEGALLY within just a few minutes without putting other people's houses at risk, yet they choose to do it right behind us.

Yep.  We always go to a friend's house at Helms Trail and 1641.

So you saw them too? (Just a little farther away).
Am I close to naming where they were coming from? It's hard to tell exactly.

I live off of Windy Lane on the Helm's trail end 90% of our neighbors shoot off fire works, we did to this year as this was the first year my kids wanted to I was amazed at the bang for you buck you can get now a days. We out in the yard shooting them and my 7 year old says "daddy we should get all the neighbors to do a grand finale at the same time" LOL that would have been cool, maybe we can pull it off next year.

We'll be hearing fireworks for weeks to come, I love being outside the city limits and don't mind picking up the trash that lands in my yard for a while after the 4th...It did suck when I had babies that were trying to sleep but that passes quick my neighbors across the street have one and I could feel their pain from past experience...

We had friends coming over and someone over on Aster/Songbird wouldn't stop shooting off their fireworks for them to come through.  They had to wait about 10 minutes.  That is just plain rude...... >:(

We also live off Windy Lane and shot off fireworks!  We had a GREAT time.  I saw the fireworks show that was put on down the street too.  it was excellent.  all of our neighbors shot off fireworks for a good 2 hours straight.  it was awesome. best fireworks i've seen.  i'm soooo glad i don't live in the city limits!

I know. .. its like you are 'surrounded' by fireworks in every direction when you are there - so cool! So pretty, so glittery!
The 1 acre lots make it so you don't 'mess' up the neighbor's yards.
It's like that every year over there.

So wouldn't ya'll Travis ranchers and windmill farmers' HOA be able to ban the fireworks within ya'lls subdivisions? isn't that what they are for a voice for the majority of home owners?
