I will bake for it either day. I could help man it on any day but the 31st. I have my hands full that day with over 40 vendors anyway.

I will see what I can setup for the 1st then. Let me see about contacting Mr. Brookeshire and if he'll allow us to do this there, and I'll work on some more details. I really feel for this family, and would like to do something to help them out. Plus it won't take away from the Chick-Fil-A deal and your sports fair that day either.

Why can't they just donate a portion of the day's receipts?

Just about all food establishments do this.  Unless it is a corporate wide deal.  When that happens, the local franchises are sometimes subsidized by corporate.

Do you know what profit margins are in fast food?  They are very, very small percentage wise.  Always have been.  If they just donated a portion of that day's entire receipts, then I can promise you they wouldn't be as willing to do them near as often because they just couldn't afford it.  Then, thy get in the situation of saying no to most of the requests.

Let's not bag on someone for not being generous "enough".  That just seems crazy.  Look at Double Dave's, Cold Stone, the late Pit Stop Pizza, etc.  They all do the same thing on their school fundraiser days.

Just let me know, but it wouldn't take anything away from our festival. It's all about kids and I would hope and pray that she will become healthy and strong enough to maybe become a ballerina or a gymnast someday.

Let's not bag on someone for not being generous "enough".

I really wasn't trying to do that. I just look at it that not everyone will know about the fund raiser and if they made it the larger $$ of 1% of the day's receipts or whatever the % is of the "donated" receipts then they could maybe do a little more without killing their profit margin for something like this. I don't have a problem with it for the school night type fund raisers since they are predominantly for the families of that school to raise money and have dinner at the same time. IMO.

See I tend to view those kinds of "fundraising" things as gimicky.  Like look at us doing our part to help the community when most people who go in that night... arent going to A) know about the fund raiser or B) will forget about it trying to get everyone all taken care of (I know for me its always a circus trying to get all 5 of us organized).  I think if you are going to fundraise it should be a portion of the nights profits.  Or you can ask people when they order do you want a portion of the proceeds to go to XYZ and then its the customer's choice.

Id rather see a place pick something to support and support it for that day then have a bunch of random fundraisers that no one has a clue are going on and nothing really comes of it.

I am curious... how much do the schools tend to raise from these "fundraisers".  Schools would probably benefit more holding their own fundraisers (and not those crappy lets sell garbage out of a catolog where someone else still reaps the benefits of your hard work) like bake sales (donated by students and families), raffles (the kids school in Euless had a nice raffle one year... silent auctions of stuff donated by businesses and families), lil carnivals, etc.

I think its good they do offer these fundraisers I just think its more fair if they donate the days proceeds or even a certain hours proceeds 6pm-8pm or something to the cause.  I am not asking them to donate the entire earnings from that time.  You dont get that either way (I dont think so anyway).  They can designate 5% or 10% of proceeds before taxes or however it works.  I think its more a gimick then true alturism on their parts.

I am just so amazed and overwhelmed at the generousity of everyone that has offered to help with donating, baking, giving of time and equipment, etc. Thanks to each and everyone of you. As I do not know the family personally, my heart truly goes out to them.

How can I be involved with the planning of the booth/bake sale(s). I will be more than glad to man the booth any day and any time. I think it would be of great benefit to set up a booth at the Celebration of Youth Sports! And also at Walmart/Brookshires...that's if we can get several to sign up to man the booth for a block of time. Let me know your thoughts.

Good idea! Stickied, and posted to the blog, with a link to this thread.

Y'all let me know if you do get the OK to do a bake sale at Brookshire's or WalMart and I'll make sure to post it to the blog and promote it any way I can.

The 20PM community may have some posts and threads that are a little out there, and some that offend, but situations like this really make me proud of the group of people that take the time to participate on the site as well as the entire Forney community as a whole - Forney may be growing exponentially (the most recent population number I heard was 14,000!), but we still look out for each other and care about our neighbors.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Kessner family - make sure to keep us updated on any planned fundraisers or any other way the community can help during this very challenging time!

Alright, here is what we are doing for the moment...

I have not talked to Trent yet, but I am still considering this and will visit with him. If Katie still has the open invite for next Sat. (31st) my wife and I are planning to man a booth for the Sports Celebration for the Kessners. We decided together to give up our anniv. dinner because we feel very strongly about support this family and helping them with this fundraiser. My wife will man the booth earlier in the day until I can get there from my softball practice (roughly 4pm). We need many things to make this happen and your support will be greatly appreciated! Please post what you can do to help and make sure you promote this as much as possible, we want to raise as much as we can for this family!!!

1. Booth - Katie, is this still available?

2. Canopy - txmom, PM sent if you are still willing to donate yours

3. Tables - I've got this taken care of

4. Table Covers - they can be cheap paper ones, just something to look nice and attach our flyers/pictures/Kessner story to

5. Chairs - I've got this covered as well

6. Lockable Box for donations to go in

7. COOLERS!!! - we will need many coolers to help keep some of the baked goods cool (such as cakes), and large ones especially will be needed, I am willing to pick them up and bring them back (clean of course), so PM me if you can't drop them off that morning or pick them up that evening

8. BAKED GOODS!!! - please, any baked goods that you can and are willing to donate for this fundraiser, please let us know. I will keep a running spreadsheet of what we can expect to sell to help advertise. I plan to make 5 Chocolate Blackout Cakes (3 for sale, 1 to sell by piece, and 1 to raffle). I am also looking for any big items that someone could donate for the raffle, maybe tickets to a Rangers game or something? Raffles almost always bring in money and we thought that would be another great way to raise money for them.

9. Volunteers! - Help man the booth, or just promote, promote, promote!

For those that don't want to buy baked goods, they can make a donation to our lockbox we will have out there, all checks need to be made out to (Katie, I need the account name to have these made out to) for direct deposit to the Kessner account at First National Bank of Forney. ALL proceeds (sales and donations) will be deposited to this account on Monday following the bake sale/raffle and I will let you know how much money we were able to raise here on 20PM.

It absolutely amazes me how everyone has stepped up and took the challenge to help this family. Lets make this a great bake sale for the Kessners and thank you so much for all of your help!

Shaun and I can help out with 7, 8, and 9.  We have a larger cooler and a med. to small cooler that we can use.  I'll get my daycare kiddos to help me produce some major baked goods.  Nate just let me know where we need to be on the 31st.  We don't have anything planned so we can help whenever we're needed!

Nate,

The booth space is still yours! I have 2 coolers and I will load them with ice to bring on that day. I will find out who to make checks out to and post it later this afternoon.

I think that Capital One is getting some tickets to a Rough Riders game to donate to our league for a raffle. If they get them, I will donate them to the Hannah cause instead. I should find out today.

Lastly, I will make brownies and cookies. At least 10-12 dozen cookies and 3 pans of brownies. I will probably package all these in baggies of 4-6 each.

Thanks for doing all this, Nate. I will let everyone know the booth will be there so we can start promoting it. I will have Laurie Barkham from the Chamber of Commerce send out an email blast today to everyone know that Hannah's booth will be at CYS2008.
