Do You Like Reptiles? / Aquariums?

We have turtles.. Red-eared Sliders (aquatic). We've had them for about 10 years.
Named Rep and Res.
Sonny brought them home from First Monday in a plastic dish... They were BOTH like the size of a quarter.
I got them a little tank.. stand.. log.. light.. filter.. food. They grew to need a 10 gallon tank.
ONE grew to need a 20 gallon tank. (They are both in it presently)
Rep is about 9" long now.. could still grow another 3".
(Res has stayed at about 4" or 5")

Poor poor Rep is not happy in the 20 gallon tank anymore - :'( ...... he needs more room still.
Right now he can barely move around with the (bigger) log and the filter/basking rock taking up half the tank.
Needs a BIGGER tank.... but 'Momma' is not willing to go bigger!! (She doesn't have the room really, nor can she afford it)

WOULD SOMEONE CARE TO ADOPT HIM (OR THEM?) -- If it were both, I'd give you everything they need, except of course, the bigger-than-20 gal tank and stand. If you wanted them to, I have even seen set-ups online where ppl have them live in plastic tubs vs regular aquarium tanks. There is also a chance he (or they) could live in a decorative outdoor 'pond' - like a koi pond - that ppl have in their yards... but you'd have to fence them in somehow. They can sure get around!

I will tell you that they are pretty good pets!!
Their lifespan is about 20 years.. so they could have another 10 in 'em.
MUCH more LOW MAINTENANCE than a dog or a cat... and waaaaay more 'fun' than fish.

You only have to feed 'em when you 'feel' like it... (once or twice a week)
They have personality.. they are fun to watch.. you can take them out and play w them (maybe you could 'race' them).. they recognize their caretaker.. they hear you, they 'see' you.. they can eat from your hand.. they 'beg' for food.. they make small funny noises (only once in a while). It is FUN to give them a live 'feeder' fish or two and watch what happens. They ARE NOT smelly. The salmonella thing is just a myth... (although I DO always wash my hands after handling them).

I don't have the heart to just let Rep go into an outdoor tank (pond).. his chance of survival is reduced because he was raised in a 'sterile' home environment and his immune system may not be up for it and also it would take him awhile to acclimate to the weather and other outdoor conditions. - but in the end, I just may HAVE to, and hope for the best.

I COULD still call the pet stores and/or zoos.. and see if they want him (or them).. but I'm willing to bet they Don't. I'm shy to call and ask them for some reason... (I hate rejection), also, I'm like one of those people who get exotic pets and say 'Duh.... I didn't know he'd get so BIG!'.. but at the time, I DIDN'T!
so I thought I'd give it a shot here on 20PM first.........
So, how about it? ANYONE? >>>>>> Make a turtle HAPPY!

Here is a link to a DFW turtle rescue ... I think there are others also in the Metroplex.  I bet they could find them a great home if you run out of options.

They have several 100gal aquariums/terrariums in their showroom in the Dallas Market Center.  We'll see what they say.

Happy Anniversary Outspoken.... my lovely wife & I have #18 coming on 9/30 as well.

These would make an excellent anniversary present for you to give your husband.  Nothing says "I love you" more than turtles in a tank.

(I believe the 24th anniversary is the "Turtle" (not gold/silver) anniversary as well, so it's PERFECT timing!)

Nope . . no turtles, no more anything.  This rabbit is giving us a run for our money.  She went under the grill and would not come out.  DH got her to come out, after several failed attempts by me.  Calling himself the Rabbit Whisper now. . . lol.  I'm hoping this is a phase for the rabbit since she is in those "teenage years" for rabbits. 

I thought rabbits were suppose to be sweet.
