Forney residents currently driving to Mesquite, Dallas and Rockwall for their medical needs will soon have a hometown hospital right here in Forney to serve their needs, at the intersection of FM-548 & Rogers Parkway. Indeed, Cirrus Health officials expect the Forney Regional Medical Center to attract patients from throughout East Texas.

In a groundbreaking ceremony today attended by local and state dignitaries such as Forney Mayor Darrell Grooms, much of the Forney City Council and the Forney Economic Development Corporation and State Representative Betty Brown (as well as Forney local, Wade Gent, who is challenging Brown in the Republican Primary), Cirrus Health unveiled the floor plan and a virtual tour of the facility. In addition, in a moving ceremony, Cirrus Health announced that the 'House Call' playground that will be located on the hospital's property is being dedicated to and named after Dr. Christine Walker who, until her retirement in May of 2007, practiced medicine in Forney for a number of decades and delivered approximately 500 Forney babies!

The 102,000 square foot hospital will include an emergency room, an obstetric unit with four labor and delivery rooms, two procedure rooms, four operating rooms, a heart cath lab and an initial capacity of 40 beds. Dr. Ira Korman, Senior Vice President of Cirrus Health, assured attendees of the groundbreaking ceremony that the virtual tour was an accurate representation of what the finished hospital will look like, right down to the sofas, chairs and beds. Read on for more about the groundbreaking and this beautiful facility, and information on how to view the virtual tour yourself...

The two-story hospital and nearby medical office building features a significant amount of stonework and beautiful architecture. The lobby area, home to a hotel-style check-in and information desk, is designed in warm earth tones and has ample (not to mention comfortable looking!) seating designed to accommodate everything from individuals to large families. The lobby also features a separate play area for children and is near the hospital's dining room.

All of the rooms in the hospital appear be private rooms, located on the facility's second floor. Each room features a spacious bed (I didn't get a chance to confirm this, but at least in the virtual tour, the beds seemed larger than the average hospital bed), a sleeper sofa that converts into a bed and the latest amenities, including flat-screen TV's, which are featured throughout the facility. The hospital will also feature building-wide wireless Internet access, allowing visitors and patients to access the Internet from the laptop and stay in touch with friends and family, as well as work, while they are at the hospital.

The labor and delivery rooms were featured quite a bit in the virtual tour, and are impressive - the rooms convert from a patient room to a labor and delivery room as well as a recovery room and back, and are setup with ample space to allow for what the hospital called a 'family oriented birthing process'. The nursery is located central to the four labor and delivery rooms, allowing family and friends to easily visit with the mother and the baby.

The hospital's layout also dedicates a significant amount of space to a complete imaging facility, providing any of the diagnostic imaging facilities a doctor might need.

Beyond the extraordinary level of care Forney Regional Medical Center will provide for residents of Forney and the surrounding area, city officials are also excited because the hospital could create up to 150 jobs in Forney, many of which will obviously be in specialized medical and high-tech fields, creating jobs for Forney students who pursue degrees in medicine and related fields, allowing them to return home to Forney after the complete their education.

Now that it has been officially unveiled at the groundbreaking ceremony, Cirrus Health is working to place the virtual tour online on their website, at this link. The virtual tour is not yet online at the time I'm finishing this post, however, the tour was unveiled just a few hours ago, and will no doubt be available online shortly.

Cirrus plans to open the facility in the Fall of 2009, and already a number of doctors have expressed an interest in the hospital and the adjacent medical office building. Cirrus is unique in their approach, as they partner with local doctors who have become investors and partners in the hospital and work with Cirrus to ensure the facility provides excellent, personal medical care.

Later today, I'll update this thread with a post detailing the (extensive!) services the hospital will offer, for those who are curious about a specific service at the hospital or with a particular medical need.

It will be nice having an emergency room within a mile of my house.

Rogers is the road running through Fox Hollow that dead ends at 548.  It divides the developed part of FH from the
new area where construction is just beginning.  There is a big Fox Hollow sign at the intersection.

tee-hehe -- they are on "the other side of the tracks" ;D

No seriously, they are the really nice housing edition near the traffic lights when you are headed towards the high school.  I would reference near the old skating rink -- but it is no longer a skating rink.  I think it is now a church.  Do you ever eat at the Country Smokehouse (I think that is the name) -- it is over there.  Does that muddy the water for ya  :)

Lord, all mighty.  Dr. Walker finally retired?  I thought she'd just go on forever, like Niagara Falls or the sun!

I was thrown off because I thought that was 1641 over there by Country Smokehouse.  My head hurts now.  Where is 1641 then?  And why can't these dang streets have names instead of numbers?!?  460 got a name (Clements Rd), 740 got a name (Pinson Rd), and 688 got a name (Broad St)...what did 548 ever do to get disrespected like that?   ???

OK, I'm done now.  :)

1641 does run in front of Country Smokehouse.  548 turns at the light and 1641 goes straight.  Did that just make it muddier?

I think I understand now.  I'll have to drive over there and acquaint myself better with that area!

I wasn't too familiar with Rogers Pkwy, either. From the site plans I saw today, it looks like Rogers Parkway will be extended across 548 with the construction of the park, the justice center and the hospital - all three will be in the same general area there across 548 from Fox Hollow.

Angie, I -think- it was May 2007 that she retired - I couldn't completely understand everything the person who read her bio was saying, but it was really neat, they talked about how it was a group of volunteers that built the clinic she first worked out of when she came to Forney long, long ago.

As promised, here's more info about the facilities and the services they're going to offer, etc.

Facility stats:

Located on approximately 13 acres
40,000 square foot medical office building
103,000 square foot hospital
4 operating suites
2 large procedure rooms
34 medical/surgical beds
6 ICU beds
Obstetric unit with 4 birthing rooms
Cardiac Cath Laboratory
25 beds for pre-op and PACU
Telemetry monitored beds
Full Emergency Department with Trauma Room

Services:

Anesthesiology
Bariatrics
Cardiology
Family Practice
Gastroenterology
Gynecology
General Surgery
Internal Medicine/Medical Admits
Obstetrics
Orthopedics
Otolaryngology (ENT)
Neurology Lab
Neurosurgey
Pain Management
Pediatrics
Plastics
Podiatry
Spine
Urology

Imaging Services:

CT Scan
Flat Plane
Fluoroscopy
Mammography
MRI

Other Services:

Stress Testing
Ultrasound
Children's Play Area
Family Lounges
Medical Heliport
Wound Care Center

The hospital will be allied with a 'tertiary hospital' - i.e., one of the big hospitals in Dallas, so if a patient needs even more advanced care in a specialized area, the patient (and their records) can be easily and seamlessly transferred to the larger hospital.

It's going to be a top notch facility - with the park, hospital, justice center, more retail, a hotel and a whole lot more to be announced shortly, Forney's going to see some major changes in 2009 and 2010 - it's an exciting time to call Forney home!

Thanks for all the information Josh!  This will be a great addition to Forney.  So I am assuming the old sketches of this development [ http://www.thecirrusgroup.com/ ] are no longer accurate?

The way I understand it, Cirrus Group locates and purchases the land, and may be involved in the construction, and Cirrus Health runs the hospital, but I could be wrong. It's a whole corporate conglomerate, basically.

So, basically, Cirrus is still the group behind the hospital, but I think the sketches they had online before were based on another hospital they've developed in another city and early plans for the Forney location. The virtual tour they showed today, and which will hopefully by on their website ASAP, is the result of all the site work, engineering and architectural planning, and is taken straight from the architect and the construction plans, so what they presented today should be what we see on the ground in a little over a year.

Ok Josh, as you can tell I am very anxious to see what this center will look like but the virtual tour is not up yet!  Is the front rendering comparable to the design on the main webpage for FRMC?
