Forney ISD leads the way in adopting cutting edge technology, yet again! Now you can list to Forney High School football games live on the Internet. The games are broadcast live, the broadcasts are archived on the Internet and you can even listen to the broadcast in the stadium if you bring a radio. This is a great way to connect Jackrabbit football fans who otherwise wouldn't be able to catch the game with their favorite team - you can keep up with Jackrabbit Football from anywhere in the world!

Here's the archive of the Forney High School football game broadcasts, to listen to them, click "Broadcaster Archive" in the column on the left of the page. Nate, the play-by-play announcer, let me know that there were some technical difficulties during the beginning of the game, so he suggests moving the timer forward to about 26 minutes into the broadcast. I believe this is also the page to visit during a football game to listen live.

You can read a biography of the announcers on Sportsgram's site - Nate White is providing the play-by-play and Tony Gonzalez is the color analyst. Both are active in the Forney discussion forums, and I've had the pleasure of meeting both in person, as well. They seem to be great guys with a real passion for sports and our community, so I'm sure they'll make a great broadcasting duo.

Even if you aren't a high school football fan, this is exciting news. So many people have moved to Forney because of its community, because of the small town feel, but many people have become concerned that all this new growth signals the end of Forney's home town, close-knit community. Indeed, many saw the addition of another high school as a harbinger of the end of small town Forney and the transformation of Forney into yet another cookie-cutter Dallas suburb. I've always felt, however, that there's a way to manage development, a way to direct growth to build a larger community around Forney's local, home town spirit. Because we're getting bigger does not mean we have to turn away from the values, the experience that Forney has represented for so long. Indeed, I'd argue that Forney's growth provides more resources and more talented individuals who love our community - resources and talent that will allow Forney to stay a "small town" all while growing larger. Projects like this one that fuse technology with a favorite, long time local pastime are part of what makes living in Forney right now so exciting, and make me believe that Forney has a very bright future as a close-knit hometown community, no matter how large we might grow.

Are you an advertiser now, Josh?   I do agree with Gonzo... It would be a GREAT medium to create some more buzz for this already buzzing website.   20PM is close to welcoming it's 200TH member!  I know they're all legit because you do a GREAT job keeping this site SPAM free.  I'm going hungry over here looking for spam...ain't found any yet. :)  I need a sammich.

Nope, not yet an advertiser. Thinking about it. If I wasn't broke and if this site wasn't free, I'd do it. Maybe I'll get those 20PM shirts done, and use the proceeds of selling the 20PM shirts to pay for some ads. Advertising paying for advertising...hmm...

I do what I can to keep spam down, luckily, the forum software I use (which is probably the 2nd most popular forum system out there after  phpbb, but it's a distant 2nd - pretty much every major forum seems to use phpbb) is much more secure and spam-proof than phpbb, which makes it a lot easier to keep the spam out.

Josh,

Just FYI, you can buy spots for as little as $5.  Maybe you could talk some users of this forum into donating a spot to you.

$5? Sweet. I saw something on Sportsgram.net that said as low as $10/game, I didn't know it could go as low as $5.

Another forum user sent me a private message and mentioned collecting donations from visitors to the site to pay for the ads, but, as I explained to him, I'm hesitant to ask for donations...I'm considering it, but I'm also looking into some ways to integrate non-obtrusive text advertising into the forums for non-registered users.

The 200th member has been sticking in my head a lot lately - I know when I view the members list from the user-side of the site, I see a lot of odd blank entries. Turns out, we're actually at our 210th member, but the bottom of each page says we have (right now) 198 members - 12 accounts have been deleted, which is what causes those odd blanks in the member list on the user-side of the site. I know at least one user who deleted their account, and I used to, right after the forums launched, delete accounts that were created by spammers, but I haven't done that in a long time, once I realized the software was doing a good job of keeping spammers out.

I would announce a big prize for the 200th member, except I don't trust a couple of you...I don't want to see "unknowner" and "unknownest" registered just so someone can take #200.  :P Just kidding, unknown.

Oddly enough, the 200th member, if you include all the deleted members, occurred on August 23rd at a little after 1PM. It was someone who created an account, didn't post anything, stayed about an hour, and hasn't been back since. Someone must've scared them off.

Josh,

I think you might be right that it starts at $10 a game, not $5.  My bad.  Still though, pretty dang cheap.
