For those of you who have been looking for a place to satisfy your Tex-Mex cravings locally, I highly recommend this place. At least on the night we went there, the food they were serving was carefully prepared using high quality ingredients (like real cheese!).
And here's the real news --- we got FRESH flour tortillas with our meal! I thought you had to go to Mesquite to find those.
I think it'll be pretty easy to find me there from now on!

Laura, you rock! I've been meaning to grab their menu, but I'm still working on the aforementioned chores-around-the-house list I was given on Friday. It feels like I've hung more drapes than we have windows, somehow...

My husband and I ate there last night. Not bad. I still like the mexican place on Main Street in Crandall better and if I were looking to have mexican food I would go there. But I will go to Pollo Ranchero again. The tortillas are fresh. The chips are good. And the salsa is hot.

we checked it out last night and food was ok at best and the ambiance was more of a department store breakroom with bright orange walls

I liked the food alright... Chips were good, but the salsa...OMG it was sooo freaking hot.
I didn't care about the decor, really. Well, I didn't care except that I was pleased to see no dead animal heads on the walls.

Well then, there goes the idea of a 20PM party at my house.

I tried Pollo Ranchero this evening... Many thoughts on the place... The CHICKEN is the tastiest I've ever had. I love that cool rotisserie oven they have toward the back left. The chips were not half as good as Las Trojas. The sauce was TERRIBLE, but that's because I strongly dislike most sauces because they contain cilantro. I don't think I'm turned off by anything more than the taste of cilantro. Blech. The cheese on my nachos was GREAT. I loved the guac and sour cream, beans, etc. I was amazed I got charged for chips... a TINY bag for a buck. Las Trojas gave us a bag bigger than the biggest bag in Walmart for FREE. The paint color on the wall is HIDEOUS. (a wacky orange color) I needed to look at something pink when I left just to calm down. Watch the comments, Shaun. Staff was young and friendly. BEST PART was there wasn't any take out menus... I asked for one as did a gentleman exiting the establishment. What did I do? I shilled for 20PM.net.... I told the cashier and the gentleman to check out 20pm.net and look in the Reviews, Referrals and Recommendations board, as they would find an online menu there. (THANKS, LAURA!) Hopefully, we get a couple of more folks to join this bustling online community. PS. Josh...Thank you so much for not using frenetic orange as a background color... I wouldn't be able to take it.

The wife, daughter, and I went there the other night. It was just okay. The chips were obviously over a day old and the salsa was too hot, like they were trying to compensate for a mediocre recipe.

We tried it out a few days ago. I highly, highly recommend going after the nail place next door to Pollo Ranchero is closed. The smell was overpowering - I felt like we were eating in a nail salon. We sat on the right side of the restaurant, which is the common wall with the nail place, maybe sitting on the left side would help with the smell.
The salsa was hot, the chips were decent - they only gave us 2 tortillas, but they were fresh and very, very good.
The service was pretty bad - it looked like there were maybe 2 waitresses working, and one of them was sitting at a table by the register with two boys her age that had walked in, never ordered anything and just spent the whole time flirting. We saw our waitress maybe twice, and we never saw her between the time our food came out and when we asked for the check.
I thought it was a little pricey for the quality, at least as far as the Tex-Mex food goes, we didn't try any of their sides (we noticed they had some unique sides, including fried okra) or their chicken - their rotisserie chicken did look really good, so we may order some of that to go sometime. Sodas seemed expensive at $1.50 for a can of soda, and I noticed that the ice came out of an ice chest sitting on the floor near the rotisserie - I really hope they empty and clean that thing out from time to time!
As others have pointed out, the decor was a bit...different. The walls are an extreme orange, with no real decoration. It honestly looks like a family that wanted to open a restaurant but didn't have a lot of money to work with, everything was really, really basic (the menus were printed on a home printer, it looked like, and placed in 3-hole-punched sheet protectors).
They're trying hard, and we'll at least give their chicken a shot, but I have a feeling we'll be getting it to go because of the overpowering fumes from the nail salon next door.

It's amazing how so many people can walk away with such different opinions of one place! My husband and I had lunch on Monday at this very same orange/pink colored, next door to the nail salon, Pollo Ranchero and honestly, it was one of the most pleasant experiences I have had in Forney. Really! The young lady who served us was very sweet and helpful. She served us quickly and the food was awesome! Fresh and hot! I noticed the odor of the nail place at first but the food was so good I quickly turned my focus to enjoying my lunch. I was disappointed at the size because I wanted to return and bring several of my friends with me. I guess every place you visit can be judged by the person or lack of persons working there. From Walmart to Pollo Ranchero - it's the people who make the difference! I love Forney and I will keep trying the new places as soon as they open. Still waiting for Saltgrass or Outback!

When we went a while back ...the salsa was just okay but the nail salon smell was terrible! I too thought it strange to see them pulling drinks out of a cooler. Also as far as service goes I also was kinda perturbed at the two workers just sitting at a front table while a waitress tried to wait on everyone(probably 2-3 tables). What made the service 'bad' for us was the lack of communication skills of our waitress.
