"In my day there was no soft opening. One day you're closed, the next day you're open". I have to admit, that quote from Ocean's 13 was the first thing I thought of when I noticed the sign posted at Lucky's Sports Grill, saying they were having a soft opening for one or more nights, and would be opening to their normal business hours on Thursday, November 1st.

Read on for news about Lucky's, NTB, Fat Dawgs and Walgreens...

Lucky's described themselves on the Forney discussion board as having "an awesome atmosphere with great customer service, uptown style bar and delicious menu. Equipped with plenty of big screen tv's, pool table, dart boards and games you are guaranteed to have a good time. Located at 1012 HWY 80 at exit 548 east of LOWE'S will be the best get together place in Forney for both family and friends of all ages."

This weekend I noticed stacks of tires behind the NTB, and employees inside. It looked like they were checking out the equipment and stocking the tires - so NTB will be opening any day now. Both NTB and Lucky's are located in Mustang Crossing, east of Lowe's, near Wing-Stop, AutoZone, etc.

Walgreens has finished all of their exterior work from the looks of things, and there have been cars (not just construction vehicles) in the parking lot quite often, so they should be opening within a few weeks, hopefully.

Finally, Fat Dawg's, which will be located where the Daily Grind used to be, near Las Trojas - on the south side of Highway 80 between Pinson & 548 - has received their TABC license and their permits to begin renovating the space, so they're hard at work getting everything ready. Once they've set a grand opening date, I'll be sure to post it.

If you have any news related to these new businesses, or any other new businesses coming to Forney, feel free to email me at Josh@TwentyPeacefulMinutes.com.

What in the world is a "soft opening?"

The description sounds like Overtime, at least as far as the atmosphere is concerned.  I continue to just love that place.  Lucky's is going to have to be HUGE to offer all that stuff! :)

That was what the characters in Ocean's Thirteen talked about, actually...about how odd the concept of a "soft opening" is. Basically, you're open, but you're not open. You advertise a grand opening date of, in this case, November 1st, and that's when you consider yourself open, when you set your hours and are open during those hours. During a soft opening, which happens before the actual "opening", the establishment will be open a few hours here and there, or on some other reduced schedule. It gives them a chance to make sure everything is working as it should be, the staff is properly trained, etc., before the "real" opening. It's an odd concept, to be open, but not be "open". I've certainly never heard of a business doing it in Forney, but hopefully it gave them a chance to get a feel for how things will run on "opening night" and make sure they have enough room, enough waitstaff, enough ingredients, etc.

If I recall correctly, they're in a corner space there in Mustang Crossing, so it could be a fairly large restaurant. Wing Stop, which has the other corner space doesn't seem very large, but it's possible that one of the corner 'anchor' spaces was bigger than the other.

I'm glad "soft opening" was explained...I felt lost.

Oh, and thanks for all the updates of the "new openings"!!
