Give it up.. finish work.. and go to bed Gary.
I got the first sentence and half of the second...
Your even giving ME 'tired head'.

Heather, you keep saying stuff, but it ALL still points directly to  =  'Agnostic' for you.

Ms.Adeline you can and should, describe yourself as whatever you like. But the fact that you take ownership of that 'denial' of a God, makes you an Athiest in my book.

Thank you for your permission to describe myself as whatever I like. You may call me whatever you like, as well. I don't read your book, anyway.

Your welcome.
BE an Agnostic Atheist. Don't pick one ... split the hair. (Even though I do understand your "intellectual honesty" tac)
So I will call you Atheist for my book.
No need to get defensive. But you are the FIRST one in that catagory I have come across - so I was trying to 'get' it.

If Heather is an agnostic I stand corrected, though it is irrelevant to the point I was trying to make. And Heather, I really was not trying to tell you what to believe or not to believe, so please don't take it that way, I just wanted all the facts on the table, as I said. As a Christian, it's my job to lead others who's lives I can touch to the light. So I do my best, but if you don't see it, then that's fine. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

And to everyone who says that Christians are hypocrites, you're absolutely right. Some are, and I guess really all are, because none of us are perfect. However, Jesus came here to die for our sins, and hypocrisy is a sin, after all. It is just the role of a true believer to be the least hypocritical they can, and someone who doesn't make an effort just is not a true believer. It is really sad how many people give Christians a bad name, and I totally understand why people view Christianity the way they do. Just, please know, that not all of us are like that, and in my opinion, no true believer is.

BTW, did you watch the video? Or check out the Golden Ratio?

Believer or non believer, its pretty powerful stuff. :)

God Bless

I watched the video.

I will have to honestly say I do not recall the Big Bang Theory from high school . . and only a brief snippit of evolution. . . the science teacher my freshman year really did not think much of my opinion . . . lol . . . but you know you just shouldn't be asking kids about their opinion if you are not prepared for it.  He was asking something about dinosaurs, evolution, what happened to the dinosaurs, etc. and asked if any of us had an opinion. . . lol . . . will of course I had an opinion. . . I told him it was because Adam and Eve ate the apple, God threw them out of the garden and bad things happened . . . rofl.  I really was not trying to be a smarty pants. . . . it just kinda happened. . . lol.

Anyways. . . I really enjoyed Part 1 of 9 and I have found the other parts, and if anyone else is interested here is a link where you can find all nine of them.

I watched TWO of 9 Ryan. I didn't know where to find the Golden Ratio.

I quit because #1. The guy/astronaut or whatever is REALLY not good at presentations, and #2. I knew the basics of most he was telling me. That the Scientific models' theories "do not work" - but then neither do some of the creationist theories other than "and then a miracle happened". My biggest problem w creationist theory is their insistance on the relative youth of the earth and it's solar system. (I think they say that it is only 6 million years old, or there-abouts).

Since this thread was originally started with an essay by Penn Jillette, and since we all seem to be posting videos, if you're interested in a rational, logical, and entertaining take on the creationism thing, check out the creationism episode from season 2 (?) of Penn and Teller: B.S. It's in three parts on youtube. Below is a link to the first( please pardon the Polish subtitles):

For those who don't believe in God, why have children? or wake up? or have purpose?

This isn't an attack, but what is your purpose if there is no God?

My purpose, before the question, is to make mistakes, learn from them, give & be an example. I have been both the bad and the right example of a Christian. The bad really was hard. I didn't realize it during those times. It was after.

Just curious about the purpose of someone who doesn't believe there is something greater. Seems like it would be easier to ignore bills, skip work, and just take welfare as it comes if you don't have a purpose.

why do you need to have god to have a purpose, to me life is more meaningful without the fairy tale of god. with your logic why not just end it now and go be with god.

Why does believing in god have a purpose? In fact believing in a god gives less purpose to life since its all preordained anyway. What will be is gods choice so why even bother?

God has no effect on my life. Why wake up? To enjoy the day. Why have kids? To enjoy ones off spring. What is our purpose if there is no god? Better question is... what is our purpose if there is a god? His entertainment? His little pets?

Believing in god gives less purpose to living then not having a god. There is no point in living except to hurry up and get to be with god. Oh but hope you worshiped him properly because he is a jealous old thing (even the bible refers to him as a jealous god). Otherwise he will throw a tantrum and toss you in hell. Even if you were a good person... if you didnt worship him the right way... well... hope you like it toasty.

I kind of take that thinking (why wake up if there is no god) to be along the lines of how can Atheists have morals  ::) My daughter was just telling me today she laughs at how people think an atheist cant have morals. She thinks a moral atheist is more moral then the "Christian" because a Christian is being moral so they can be with a god and get to heaven. She is moral simply for the fact its the right thing to do and not because she has to impress some god with her feats of goodness.

I just can't help but laugh at all of this. "Is there a God?" "There is no God!" and of course, "How can you not believe in God."

Haven't you learned anything. You can not argue religion and or politics. You aren't going to change the way a person thinks or believes.

Again I say,  cant we just agree to disagree. I believe what I want and you believe what you want.

That I agree with. We never do know when our last day is to be. Today, tomorrow, 60 years from now. Its always good to make sure your loved ones know they are loved.

Sorry to hear about your FIL. How is your husband doing?

Teacherdude - just because you cant change minds doesnt mean it shouldnt be up for discussion. I still enjoy religious discussions even though I do not believe. And people's minds *can* be changed. I know many people who didnt believe who now do, and others who believed and now don't. A person's mind is never set in stone.
