Looking for new church home....
« on: August 10, 2009, 11:51:36 am »
I know this will open a HUGE can of worms, but our family is in search of a new church home in or around Forney.

We do not want a HUGE church (I know they say bigger is better, but) with our experience a bigger church has meant getting lost in the crowd, or even becoming nothing more to the church than an ATM.

We don't want something so small that everyone involved knows every little detail of each others lives.

We want to have a somewhat lively service, occasional social activities and make some really good friends in the process as well. Preferably nondenominational, come as you are, worship as you see fit, we don't judge type of church.

I am sure there are plenty of these out there, and we welcome the discussion!

Thx,

Smirky

I attend Grand View Baptist in Mesquite on I30 between Northwest and Galloway. This church is very loving and supportive. The people are not judgemental. Heck, one of our deacons is a big, burly biker that wears his leathers and Harley t-shirts to church. There is a good mix of ages. Membership is around 300. Typically have about 200 in attendance on Sunday morning. Very lively worship service, pastor is in his early 40's and keeps his messages very relevant to the world we live in. All around a great church.
We have also recently ended our Sunday evening services and meet in home groups instead. One of these home groups meets in Travis Ranch if you would like to attend one of these groups and get to know a few of our church members in a smaller setting. PM me if you would like more info.

Well, I go to a very small church over in Garland and it is a very good church though. It is full of older people and just a few kids, but we all feel like family. You said you went looking for a church like this, but just wanted to share.

I'd like for you to try Covenent Generations Church.  Hwy 80 Service Road by all the antique stores.  Pastor Richie is a young dymanic man, has a great message and is very sincere.

http://thecgc.info/ to check them out.

There is a rather new church in Forney it's called Community Life Church or c|Life. This church sounds like something you're looking for. Great small groups and amazing worship.

You should check out there website www.clifec.com and look around. If you have any other questions you can always email me, I believe my email is in my profile.

Smirky,

Water of Life is a growing church with about 60 members currently.  We seem to be growing slowly but surly!   We have a growing Youth group, a monthly prayer group, an active Women's group and the world renown Alpha Course (which I highly recommend your family attending wherever you land!  It is basically Christianity 101 and is a comfortable atmosphere where you can ask ANY questions that you have about life and Christianity without fearing judgment.  Even the most "seasoned" Christians benefit from this course!  We are offering one starting this month!).  We have just purchased land on FM 1641 and plan to be in our "permanent" home by the end of the year and have family lunches every couple of months.

I just love my church family and the Holy Spirit is certainly there!  We hold a "blend" service for now with primarily Praise and Worship music with a good ol' traditional song thrown in there that ALWAYS reminds your of childhood.  As our church grows, and after our move, we hope to add a second service so that we can have two completely separate services, Contemporary and Traditional.

We currently meet Sunday mornings at 9:30 am with Sunday School following for all ages and a nursery for children under 4 (if needed).  Our address is 309 S. Bois d Arc in building B of the Semilla de Vida Baptist Church (we rent space from them).

Feel free to check our website out at www.wateroflifelc.org or call 214-206-7029.  We would love to have you visit if for nothing else to worship together for the day.  I hope you find what you need for you and your family.  Blessings.

Smirky...(love this name...by the way :)
There really are a lot of good churches here in Forney. I still think it's great that there are so many different kinds of church "personalities" and I believe there is one for everyone looking.  Of Course, I want to suggest my church also.  Mustang Creek Community Church.  I believe we fit into your description as the kind of church you are looking for as do many of the others.  We are getting ready to move into our new building. Hopefully by the end of September we will be completely through with phase 1 of our building process. Right now, we meet in " The Venue" (North 548) on Sunday Mornings at 9:00 and 11:00 am.

If you choose to come see us, ask for me and I'll buy you a cup of coffee!
If you don't I'll still buy you copy and I'll pray you find the perfect place to worship.

We attend Fellowship Baptist, and we love it!  We felt comfortable and at home the first time we walked in the door.

Just thought I'd tell you about mine.

Trinity Family Church (I 20 and 1641).  Sunday School 9:45 a.m. Sunday Worship 10:30 a.m. Wednesday night 7 p.m.

Non-denominational; wonderful people; wonderful church!

5 years ago, I prayed asking God to lead me and my boys the church for us and we found Trinity.  God will lead you! :)

I believe they are on Forney's former 'Antique' row... the warehouses on the North side of Hwy 80... IN the spot that used to be Forney Opry.
