Warrington Homebuilders
« on: August 13, 2009, 07:48:33 pm »
So, I'm wondering about the new homebuilders whose offices are now located in the info center.

They have this big sign which boasts "pre-K through 12 grade" schools.

Pre K??????  From my understanding you're kid can only get into pre-K if English is the 2nd language, you make below a certain income level, or you lie and say you do....(and the last one just irritates the snot outta me)  ^wall

Surely, these people aren't "lying" to potential customers.  Surely, they know what happened the first time homeowners were mislead. :drama:

Why am I bringing this up?  Boredom mainly, but was wondering if anyone else had noticed and cared......   :tired:

How are they lying?  Pre-K is available in Windmill Farms whether you have to qualify or not.  Do you want them to throw a paragraph on the sign with all of the stipulations of pre-k?

As long as they don't try to advertise a golf course . . . . I'm good . . . . LOL

Taxes should be used for NEEDS not wants.  You WANT something extra/special pay for it yourself, don't share the burden with other homeowners.  Why should people's taxes be so high and unaffordable?

It's my understanding that Pre-K for FISD (whether in Windmill Farms or not) is only for those children who qualify.  I could be wrong (but don't tell my husband...I stick by my story that I'm always right)

So, if I were a potential homebuyer with small children,  I'd be SOOO excited that my little Johnny or Susie could attend pre-K.  I'd buy my house; move in; and then  :yikes: find out that because we make too much money and speak English we don't qualify.

Kinda like the golf course.....we were told "it will come" and that was a big selling point for us.  :sad2:

LMFAO at making too much money and speaking English. :lmao: We actually have a neighbor we use to be friends with who lied on the application so their brat could go to preschool.  They also claimed WIC when they didn't have to.  Of course, they didn't have to have a third kid either.

Pre-K is a federally funded Title I program, the requirements are the same, regardless of the district.  The only difference is the availability of spots and of course there are some wealthy areas that do not have Title I schools at all. "At-risk" includes non-english speakers, and low-income.  Studies have shown these groups of children are not prepared for Kindergarten, so they need a little extra helping hand.  I was a substitute teacher for Pre-K for awhile in another district, and trust me, if those kids weren't fed breakfast and lunch at Pre-K, they would not have a meal all day.  I doubt any of them ate dinner, they would be starving in the morning.  You can disagree with the program, and still see why we can't turn these little kiddos away.  Their faces say it all.  I don't know if Forney is as bad as other districts, but I imagine it is similar, just on a smaller scale.

A Title I administrator told me how difficult it is to explain to us 'working folks' that they do not qualify for Pre-K.  They recommend area churches, day cares, etc. that may offer similar programs, some with scholarships or very little cost.  I don't agree with much about the Texas public schools these days I do see why those two groups of children are specifically in need of some extra help.  Whether or not that should exclude the other children is something you should take up with your U.S. representatives and of course our state officials.  I really do encourage that, sometimes I think they are just out of touch with the struggles of the average Texas family.

Thank for the info Jen.   :)

I think you might have misunderstood what I was saying.  In no way did I say that I was against Pre-K. (although I may have come off a tad sarcastic with my comment that "we speak English and make too much money").  ;D

What I am against are parents who outright lie to get their little darlings into the program when they actually don't qualify.  I've seen it and it irritates me, but what can I do?  Squeal?  No use, because another will come and take their place.

I have kids in school; I've volunteered and seen first hand those who really need help and those who are just "sucking off the government".  Either way, it's the kids that lose.

The new homebuilder is advertising Pre-K through 12 grade on their big sign. That's what started this entire thread.  With everything that has happened in Windmill Farms (we've been here from the beginning; moved here in August of 2002.....we're lied to by Coleman homes about MANY things) you would think that any new builders would have the smarts to check their facts before they "advertise" something for the masses......

If it's one thing that gets into my craw more than anything else, it's being lied too.....

I wonder what states dont have Prek for children. If its federally funded... how is it some states have PreK for all children and Texas is only for some children? I also wonder what states allow for Pre-K for all children.
