Anyone else have water that is just a little dirty looking? Doesn't smell or taste different, it's just the color. :yarr:

I noticed something a few days ago.  I thought it looked a little off when it came out of the faucet.  But when I put it into a clear glass, it didn't look different...just the normal tiny bubbles....

Fill your tub half way.  It has a yellow tint to it.  I noticed it before my son jumped into the tub.

Good thing it wasn't after, I might have questioned your son's actions while in the tub.

Maybe, that is why we have to pay our bills a week sooner from now on?  I thought this thread was about the notice that we now have to pay on the 16th.

We have designer water in WF.  Nothing but the best.

I was hoping the thread was about an off-color joke to tell at the water cooler. Guess that shows where my mind is!

I can make it into a dirty joke thread if necessary!!
The only time we notice the color difference is when the pirate bride is filling the bathtub.

Man, we have 3 threads going on this now? Nice. :D

I just heard from Severn Trent (the people the water districts in Windmill Farms pay to manage our water/waste water/etc. services) - apparently the problem isn't specific to Windmill Farms, or even just to the Forney area - it appears to be an issue with NTMWD, which supplies water to 10-20 cities in North Texas.

Here's the latest update from STS:

"[...] discussed the yellow water issue we have been experiencing intermittently lately and the chlorine taste and odor issues. He informed me that not only is the City [of Forney] seeing the same thing but also High Point WSC, Markout WSC, Talty WSC, and well as Windmill. He is going to be making contact with NTMWD to see what could be happening. We are going to performing some additional testing at the plant for turbidity (water clarity) to see if the problem continues for the incoming water or if it has cleared. All other analysis is normal and bacteriological samples are all negative, meaning there is no safety issue with the water there is only a slight discoloration and may not taste as it usually does.

You cannot see the discoloration in a small sample only when people are filling swimming pools and there is a large volume of water and it is only happening in certain areas. Mainly in 1C along Preston Trail and Chisholm Trail for some reason. The City of Forney is seeing the same thing. The yellow water is in pockets sporadically in their system. We are going to flush heavily in this section of 1C today.

I wanted to provide everyone with an update. We are trying to work through the problem as fast as possible."

P.S. There's always some discoloration/sand/etc. in your water. Always. It's just a fact of life. Even in our new neighborhood, where we're on city water, we have some. I know this because, just like in Windmill Farms, we have a whole-house water filter. This time I even went with a clear system that allows me to see just how much sand is being trapped by the filters, and it's been running a bit less than 6 months and the main sediment filter is already orange from the sand. Apparently it can be the worst when a neighborhood is first constructed, due to all the construction activity.

There's whole house water filter systems out there you can DIY - http://www.waterfilters.net/Whole-House-Filtration-Systems.html has a great selection. If you want the best with the smallest drop in pressure, go with the 20" big blue housing. Higher initial cost, but the filters last longer and you lose the least pressure. Since our water is continuously testing as safe from bacteriological threats, you'll want to focus on filters that filter out sediment, taste and odor.

One system might be:

http://www.waterfilters.net/Pentek-BBFS-22-Water-Filtration-System.html ($199)
+ 2 filters, such as:
http://www.waterfilters.net/WaterFiltersNET-P5-20BB-WF-Sediment-Water-Filter.html - sediment, 5 micron ($22.69)
and
http://www.waterfilters.net/KX-Matrikx-06-425-200-20-Water-Filter.html - turbidity, lead, cysts, etc. plus chlorine taste & odor ($104.99)

So, $326.68 + installation costs to install and then just the cost of replacing the filters every 6/12 months depending on your water quality.

If you're comfortable DIY'ing the installation, the installation costs can be as little as ~$20 of parts from Lowe's.

Even when your water looks perfect, there's still some sand/sediment in it, as I've discovered by having these filtration systems in both of our houses, so installing one of these systems will help extend the life of your water heater / washing machine / dishwasher / etc.
